Compassion involves attempting to understand another in need as well as an inclination to help and support the needy other (Sprecher & Fehr, 2005). It can also refer to more encompassing and enduring feelings for all humanity. Compassion includes related concepts like caregiving, selflessness, and altruism (Berscheid, 2010).
